Forensic and Scientific Services

Queensland Health Forensic and Scientific Services (FSS) is Australia’s most comprehensive forensic and public health science facility specialising in Police Services; Clinical Forensic Medicine; Forensic and Coronial Services, and Public and Environmental Health.

We provide expert analysis, advice and research to Queensland Government agencies, local government authorities; local, national and international universities; state and federal regulatory authorities; and private clients including the medical, mining and environment sectors.

We are a vital part of the government response to managing and preventing threats to public health and the environment, epidemics, civil emergencies, criminal investigations and coronial inquiries through specialist scientific services.

The highly qualified and experienced professionals at FSS use the latest technology to investigate and respond to public health threats, epidemics, civil emergencies, criminal investigations and coronial enquiries.

We are ISO certified, AQIS approved, NATA accredited and the state reference laboratory for a number of diseases and organisms of public health significance.

Research and development

Fundamental to the growth, relevance and innovation of our scientific service delivery is our Research and Development Program.

Our research priorities translate good science into relevant public and environmental health outcomes, legislation and policy, and help improve the safety and security of Queenslanders.

Forensic and Scientific Services is the only laboratory in Australia to provide both forensic and public health services in one location. Our research priorities are diverse and encompass areas such as biology, chemistry, radiology, and forensic medicine and science.

Contact the Research and Human Ethics Unit to learn more about our Research and Development Program, or to collaborate with our organisation.
