Public Health Virology performs diagnostic testing and research into viral and rickettsial diseases of public health importance to Queensland. This is achieved by offering tertiary referral services to private and public pathology providers as well as maintaining certified high containment laboratories capable of handling exotic, highly pathogenic or unknown viruses, and insect vectors of disease.
Our team is highly skilled and capable of responding to new, known and emerging viral threats, and has the capacity to perform large-volume testing during pandemic emergencies.
