Pushpendra Chauhan

Pushpendra is the Senior Health Physicist at Forensic and Scientific Services Radiation and Nuclear Science unit. His tasks span a broad base of radiation protection consultancy services ranging from dosimetry advice to project management for complex environmental and occupational radiological impact assessments. As senior physicist of the Radiation and Nuclear Science unit, Pushpendra strives to provide services tailored to client needs and consistent with best practice radiation protection governance and culture.

Pushpendra has an interest in environmental applications of Health Physics. In particular, the characterisation of Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material (NORM) under circumstances where there is a juncture between the public, environment and sources of NORM.

Qualifications

  • Graduate Diploma of Applied Science (Medical Physics), Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, QLD.
  • Graduate Diploma of Management Information System, Central Queensland University, Sydney Campus, NSW.
  • Bachelor of Science - First Class Honours - (Physics), The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Vadodara, Gujarat, India.

Research interests and expertise

  • Sites contaminated by historical mineral sand processing activities.
  • Radiological characterisation of environmental sites and systems.
  • Radiation survey meter calibrations with Cesium-137 and characterization of environmental survey meter for measurement of naturally occurring radioactive material in environment using large area environmental pads.
  • Radon and Thoron measurements.
  • Calibration, maintenance, and management of Low- and high-resolution Gamma spectrometry laboratory for the measurement of natually occurring radionuclides in soil, water, and other material.
  • Routine participation in proficiency testing exercise with national and international agencies like ARPANSA (Australian Commonwealth regulator), IAEA, MAPEP.
